Infrared Sauna

Historically, heat treatments have been used to help heal the body for thousands of years for relieving stress, increasing relaxation and detoxification among Native Americans, Eastern Europeans and in Ancient Chinese Medicine, among other cultures and traditions. Sauna technology has come a long way, and today they’re used by holistic practitioners and various healers around the world. Infrared saunas are a type of sauna that uses heat and light to help relax and detoxify the body. Also called far-infrared saunas or near-infrared saunas, these emit infrared light waves that create heat in the body, causing you to sweat and release stored waste.

Anti-aging effects, increased detoxification, pain reduction, joint and muscle support, and cardiovascular healing are currently where infrared saunas are gaining the most attention. They’re believed to have a parasympathetic healing effect, which means that along with a multi faceted approach, they can help the body handle stress and help larger imbalances such as insomnia and depression, hormonal imbalances and autoimmune disorders. These types of saunas differ from “regular saunas” because their light directly penetrates your skin but does not warm the air around you. The results of an infrared sauna are produced at lower temperatures than a conventional sauna and might be tolerated better by people who can’t withstand the very high heats of other dry saunas or even steam rooms.

  • It is advisable to avoid eating and drinking altogether 2 to 3 hours prior to your session. In the days leading up to your session (and always!) drink plenty of water, sessions can run more smoothly when you're well hydrated. Avoiding heavy foods leading up to your session is advisable - such as sugar, alcohol, red meat, dairy, fried foods and heavy carbs. Keep in mind that your body responds best to your session when it is relaxed. As your life allows, please give yourself time before your session for deep breathing, laughing, movement, and a positive, supportive environment to help facilitate a relaxed state of mind.

There is no special clothing needed but we suggest that you wear comfortable clothing. Before your session, the practitioner will briefly exit the room allowing you have a moment alone to remove garments below the waist and put on a privacy robe and a drape, so clothing should be comfortable enough to remove in this way, clothing from the waist up remains on.
